Specification of Silicon Carbide SIC
Manufactured to appear in the widest high temperature range, KANTHAL Globar Silicon Carbide (SiC) Electric Heating Elements are very versatile heating elements. It can be produced in straight, spiral, single or multi-shank designs for a variety of applications including heat treatment, smelting and sintering. Made from semiconductor materials, the resistivity is much higher than metal resistant materials. The resistance decreases with temperature and reaches a minimum at 600-900 ° C. However, for temperatures above 900 ° C, resistivity increases with increasing temperature. Can be used in a temperature range of 600 - 1600 ° C, both in the air and in a controlled atmosphere. The resistance of silicon carbide heating elements increases during its lifetime; hence a variable voltage supply may be needed during long-term operation. To optimize the life of the heating element, the right element must be chosen by loading the surface of the element as low as possible. Because heating materials remain rigid, even at max temperatures, no special support is needed for installation in both horizontal and vertical directions. Higher electrical charges can be received without interfering with the process and heat performance. Therefore large cost savings are possible with minimum maintenance. Also elements can be easily replaced without the need to shutdown. Generally available in the form of round rods or tubes, special heaters are also available for replacement purposes. Built with conventional central heat zones and two cold ends, both are available in diameters from 10 mm to 55 mm.
